You ask

You beg

You pray

You petition

And when you do so, you expect God to move. After all, He IS the God who answers prayers. You’ve asked God to heal your marriage, to help you raise your children, to heal your body, to keep you in your right mind.

And the very mouth that uttered those prayers, is the same mouth that can render those prayer null and void.

The mouth that says:

“I can’t stand my husband. He’s driving me crazy.”

“My child is getting on my last nerve and I can’t take it anymore.”

“God my body feels terrible. I can’t do this. My knees are killing me.”

“God I don’t know how much more I can take. I’m losing my mind.”

You know, those defeatist, self-loathing under your breath utterances. Those too are a form of prayer.

So here is your three step fix to pray right. While there are many modes and methods of prayer, I want to give you three simple steps for approaching the throne of grace so that you don’t find yourself negating or nullifying your own prayers.

PRAY IN FAITH

When you come to God, you must have faith, knowing and believing that He can and will do what He said He will do. He wants to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that you can ask or imagine but you have to come into agreement with His plans for your life.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

PRAY HIS WORD

The bible says angels hearken to perform the Word of the Lord. Your angelic hosts are on standby, ready to work on your behalf. Warring angels, ministering angels, all waiting …And they are dispatched when you release the Word of God.

Jesus taught us to pray in this manner …Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. How do we know God’s will? He reveals His will to us when we spend time with Him in His Word. Additionally, when His word is hidden in our hearts, it becomes imbedded in our souls such that when we pray, we are speaking back to God that hidden Word. And when we pray in that manner, we have the surety that He hears us and that we will be granted what we have asked for.

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you. John 15:7

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

DON’T PRAY AMISS

Ok friends, this is where we gotta do better. Many of you know to pray in faith. Many of you know how to pray the Word. But this is where we get caught up. We have to be very diligent to guard our thoughts and to guard our speech. We have to be purposeful to think and speak in alignment with heaven. We have to take toxic thoughts captive and declare the truth of the Word in prayer so that we are not negating and nullifying our own prayers. We will not be found praying amiss.

Or you pray and yet do not receive, because you pray wrongly, your object being to waste what you get on some pleasure or another. James 4:3

Praying in faith, His word and not amiss. That’s how we do it. And I’ve been on the other side of doing it this way. I have prayed contrary to God’s will. I’ve uttered words that were diametrically opposed to what God had shown. I’m sharing some of those testimonies here, so be sure to watch and learn from my errors.

As always, it is my prayer that you’ve been Inspired To Live Fully!

I knew I struck a cord when the enemy retaliated.

All year I’ve had a tremendous burden to pray. While I’ve long since considered myself a woman of prayer, God is showing me anew the purpose, procedure and power of prayer.

And the past week found me with the full armor of God on, warring in the spirit. There were some MAJOR events occurring in the lives of several close to me that warranted me going before the throne on their behalf. And I went forth with boldness in the power and authority given to me by the Lord. I had a new level of fervor, passion and holy indignation. I was downright ticked off and my spirit was dispatched to do something about it. Within minutes of concluding the prayers, I was seriously burned. I will share those details another day, but suffice it to say, I went into the enemy’s camp to reclaim and recover.

You want something to happen in the life of someone you know? Pray for them.

[bctt tweet=”Praying for a person is not merely tell God “about” them, but is instead praying God’s will “for” them.” username=”inspiredfully”] God already knows all about them. God knows about the person who has hurt you. God knows about the boss who has wronged you. God even knows about all the things concerning you so don’t merely pray about, but pray specific, targeted prayers concerning His will in all matters.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. 1 Timothy 2:1

When we pray, our intent is not to inform God but to petition heaven for God’s will to prevail. When we pray we come into agreement that it is on earth as in heaven. When we pray, we dispatch angel armies to loose our prayers that the prince of the air has attempted to intercept (Daniel 10:12-13).

[bctt tweet=”You have the power to move heaven and earth with your prayers.” username=”inspiredfully”]

Use Your Power!

Your family needs, your friend needs, your neighborhood needs, your nation needs, your world cries out in agony and needs you to exercise your POWER-FULL prayers.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:18

Let us pray…

Father, I thank you that we can come boldly before the throne that we may obtain mercy and find grace. You are truly a Good Good Father. You are ever loving, ever kind and ever true. It is your desire that we know and receive your love for us. Oh your love is so deep and so wide and nothing can separate us from your love. Lord make this love real and tangle not only in our lives but in the lives of our family, our friends, our co-workers and our neighbors. For those that are not in relationship with you, draw them nearer. Let them experience you in an undeniable way. Let them have a life alter encounter with you. For those already in relationship with you, let your fire fall afresh on them, giving them a new zeal, a new hunger and a new thirst for you. Let your children seek you first. Let heavens realities be seen and felt here in the earth. Stir up the gifts in your children that they would use them to bring about radical change to heal the sick, to bring the dead to life and to give hope to the hopeless. May our sons and daughters dream God dreams and obediently follow you so that the dreams manifest. May our sons and daughters prophesy. God may your kingdom come and your will be done. Glory, glory, glory to your name; the name that is above all names. AMEN

How’s Your Prayer Life?

I mean really….How’s your prayer life?

I recall being asked a question by my uncle-in-law before my husband and I got married. He said, “You know what you’re doing, don’t ya?” By this, he was asking did we know what we were getting ourselves into by getting married. I recall diving head first into a monologue about love and wedding details. You see, I completely missed the point. The question was one that need to be mined in order to uncover its treasures.

So I ask you again, “How’s your prayer life?”

Yes I’m sure you pray.

Yes I bet you even get specific in your prayers.

Hey you may even talk to God using His very WORD.

Yup, I don’t doubt your taking time to talk to God in prayer.

But are you really PRAYING?

Or are you merely informing God?

I consider myself a woman of prayer. Very early in my Christian walk I learned several models of prayer. I learned to pray the Lord’s Prayer. I learned to pray using the ACTS method (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication). Then there’s listening prayer and contemplative prayer and Matthew Henry’s method. Yup, most days I would say I’m REALLY praying. But then again…

I’ve heard it said that prayer is just talking to God. Be that as it may, there is an essential component that gives prayer its power. And that is FAITH. If we are praying the most heartfelt, scripture laden prayers but lack faith are we doing any more than just talking?

Last October, Charne Pretorius spoke at a Women’s Conference held at my church. There were many speakers on the lineup and many enticing topics to choose from. I was already in the room she was scheduled to speak in and didn’t really feel like going anywhere so I stayed and boy am I glad I did. She spoke simply yet so profoundly on prayer. And I was very much convicted.

Yes I had been praying.

Yes I had been specific in my prayers.

Yes I was even praying according to God’s will.

But even in that my prayers were lacking.

They were lacking a bit of faith. The kind of faith that SEES angels being dispatched to move on behalf of my prayers. The kind of faith that can let go of whatever I’ve prayed for because I can rest in knowing God has heard and is faithful to answer. The kind of faith that knows my prayers live on for ages, continuing to minister from heaven even to my children’s children. The kind of faith that knows that I know that I KNOW my God will do what He said He will do. Bold faith. Radical faith. Undaunted faith.

My friend you are a HOUSE OF PRAYER. Just as Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13), because you are a temple that houses the Holy Spirit, you are a house of prayer. Your prayers coupled with your faith create an atmosphere conducive for DUNAMIS – miraculous power, strength, might.

And just as JESUS drew strength directly from heaven through prayer, you are strengthen, emboldened and bring heaven to earth when you pray. When you pray, you take a direct, first-class journey to heaven. As a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20), prayer is your Visa, granting you access to travel back and forth from heaven to earth.

When you pray in faith, heaven touches earth.

When you pray in faith, God hears.

When you pray in faith, God moves.

When you pray in faith, things change.

When you pray in faith, hearts are mended.

When you pray in faith, bodies are healed.

When you pray in faith, minds are transformed.

So set your heart on having a prayer life that is fervent, vibrant and active. Get before the Father, still yourself and seek His heart. When you do that, you will tap into the heartbeat of heaven. He will pour His heart out into yours. You will be two hearts beating together in synchronicity. Faith is the metronome allowing you to keep time with the heartbeat of heaven.

So how’s your prayer life? I’m praying even now that you’ve been inspired to BELIEVE in what you are asking God for. I mean really believe. I pray you SEE God moving on your behalf. Yes, you’ve got to SEE it before you get to see it. And I’m praying your faith is activated. Your prayer life is literally causing heaven to touch earth. Yes, you’ve got that kind of power.

So how’s your prayer life?

DYNAMITE!

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

There are days when you just know that you know GOD IS ABLE.

You know those days when money is plentiful, your job is secure, the cupboards are overflowing, relationships are effortless, children are obedient, and your self worth is high.

Then the other days come. Such is life right? The days that have you questioning the One who said He would provide. The days when the One who said He’d never leave nor forsake you seems to be playing a game of hot peas and butter but you don’t seem to be getting closer, only colder, colder, and colder still.

How do we eradicate the spirit of doubt and activate our faith? How do we hold fast to the truth that God is able? We do it with a simple two-step: Prayer and Praise. Put on your garment of praise and shirk off the spirit of heaviness. Shod your feet in your gospel of peace shoes and get your praise on.

By prayer Peter was released from prison (Acts 12:5-17)

Through prayer and praise, Paul and Silas were delivered from prison (Acts 16:25-40)

[bctt tweet=”Even in the solitary spaces, God is able.” username=”inspiredfully”]

PRAY

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly for me

God is able to make all grace abound toward me

God is able to give me peace that surpasses all understanding

God is able to supply all my needs according to His riches in glory

God is able to make my enemies my footstool

PRAISE

My soul magnifies you Lord

My soul boasts in you Lord

My soul blesses you Lord

My soul delights in your Word

All my inmost being praises you Lord

With prayer and praise move the TRUTH from your head to your heart…

GOD IS ABLE!

Being a parent is not for the faint of heart. From watching a newborn’s chest rise and fall so you can confirm breathing to staying up late waiting for a teen to return home, being a parent can leave you sick with worry. Fear, anxiety and guilt can become permanent house guests if you’re not careful. But we are careful parents who do not let seeds of doubt and deception take root. We are parents who fiercely hold fast to the TRUTH.

While we may not have ALL the answers in parenting, we do have THE answer. And the answer is PRAYER. [bctt tweet=”The single most effective thing we can do as parents is to pray for our children” username=”inspiredfully”] I’ve fervently poured my heart out for our sons and you can read that HERE. Now let us bombard heaven on behalf of our daughters.

Lord,

You are a good good Father. You are the Good Shepherd who guides and protects us and our children. Thank you Holy Spirit for teaching us and leading us into all truth. And it is only by your power and revelation that we can effectively parent our daughters. So Lord I thank you that you see each of our daughters. You are intimately acquainted with everything concerning them for you knew them even before we did and you sent them for a time such as this. Thank you for trusting us to steward over these Proverbs 31 women in the making. Confirm for our girls that you love them with an everlasting love. If they’ve been wounded remind them that you see, that you care and that you are the balm that heals. Reassure them that they are the apple of your eye and a jewel in your crown. May they embrace their self-worth and see themselves clothed in beauty and splendor. May they seek to honor you in their temples by pursuing purity, eating right and exercising. May they be discerning like Abigail, knowing there is a time and a place for everything under the heavens. May they be judicious and wise like Deborah. Let our daughters be women of their word like Hannah. Through our own example, let us show them how to be hospitable like the Shunamite woman. Oh that they would have the faithfulness of Ruth and the courage of Esther. May they don obedience and gentleness as garments of praise. We thank you that your plans for them are for good and not evil. May they discover their purpose early and begin to walk in it at a young age. And when the lures of this world try to steal their attention, help them keep their minds staid on you. Lord let our daughters be cloaked in your favor. Above all, I pray they worship you all the days of their lives and dwell in your house forever.

Forever.

That’s how long it seems like I’ve been waiting.

Prayer. Supplication. Petition. Request. Beg. Plead. Negotiate. Pray some more.

God, I know you’re able.

God, I believe you’re willing.

God it’s been a long time. I’ve been diligent. I’ve been faithful. What I’m requesting is in alignment

with your will.

When will you answer my prayer?

Have you ever felt like this?

Have you made a request of the Lord and not had it answered?

You’ve waited patiently…One year. 3 years. 10 years and still no forward movement? In fact, you may feel that you’ve moved even farther away from seeing the prayer realized.

Let me encourage you friend to not give up on God. Keep believing.

Don’t lose hope!

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13

I was ready to give up, to say forget it. Ready to sit down right with the end zone in sight and just hand over the game.

In the midst of a meltdown, my friend asked, “Don’t you see how close you are? Do you not see the end zone right in front of you?”

Yeah, I see it and I’m trying to keep the faith but my legs have given out and won’t carry me any farther. The lactic acid in my muscles has caused me to falter and my prayer has no push.

“That’s ok,” my friend says. She gives me permission to use a time out but encourages me to continue praying and believing in anticipation of the answered prayer.

Even when it seems you’ve been waiting forever…..keep the faith. I know you think it’s been a long time. I know you feel like its been forever. I know you want your miracle and you want it yesterday.

But what is man’s time to the Lord anyway?

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8

Since my God is not slack concerning His promises, this is what I’m going to do while waiting. I invite you to join me.

PRAY

Yes, I will continue to pray. When I feel like I can’t pray anymore, I will call up the Word that’s been stored in the recesses of my heart. I will pray and give thanks for what HE has released that’s on its way. I will pray for those He will work through to bring the promise to pass. I will pray against any demonic activity trying to withhold, subdue or delay my answer. I will pray that my heart is ready to receive. Yes, I’ll keep praying and giving thanks.

PRAISE

Hallelujah, He is worthy to be praise! Regardless of how I FEEL about it, He is worthy. He is righteous. He is holy. He is loving. He is gracious. He is merciful. He is kind. He is a friend. So for this, for all He is, for all He does, for all He doesn’t do, He is worthy to be praised! My mouth is set. I gotta put praise on it!

PROFESS

I will profess that my God is great. I will profess that my God hears and answers prayers. I will profess the truth of His word. I will profess the promises He’s said are mine. I will profess the visions. I will profess that my God is able, willing and it’s only a matter of time….

Sitting…Waiting….Strategizing….Praying. [bctt tweet=”Its 4th & 10. I’m not going for the punt. I’m going to BELIEVE God.” username=”inspiredfully”] I’m going to go for it because He is faithful to deliver.

When beginning a word a document, I defer to the settings already established. I rarely change the margins, spacing or font. I go right in and get to work! When I am confronted with any life situation or circumstance, I want my prayer life to mirror how I begin a document; I go in and get right to praying.

Instead of focusing on what’s not right about the situation or person, how I could change or fix it or complain about it, just get RIGHT to praying. And while that is my frequent mode of operating, it isn’t quite my DEFAULT mode yet, but I’m working on it.

The Lord crashed this into my consciousness the other day, as I was texting a friend about what someone had done to me. As the chain of texts grew in length, the Lord gentle whispered, “Have you talked to ME about the situation yet?”

Ah, I hadn’t. So it made me aware that my mode was to sort through my feelings then pray. That’s when the Lord said to me, Prayer: The Default Mode. I’ve heard my Pastor John K. Jenkins say many times, “You turn to other before you turn to God.” And when he says that, I nod my head in agreement, “Mmm-Hmm they sure do. Running to complain to someone else. Talk to God first”, is what I utter under my breath about THOSE people.

Well excuse me Miss; you would be one of those people too. Oh no, not Tyra. Well sorry to burst your bubble Little Miss, but yes, that would be you. No you don’t usually call to talk to someone about it but you do engage in dialogue in your head on how you’ll fix the person, what you’ll say to him or her and how you’ll say it. All before talking to God first.

But I’m recalibrating. I’m tweaking the settings. Now it will look like:

Prayer: The Default Mode

So how does one make prayer the default mode?

[bctt tweet=”Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2″]

By praying: praying in faith, praying with a clean heart, praying in alignment with His will, praying with thanksgiving and praying without ceasing.

Like Nike says, Just Do It!

For those who are recently establishing a consistent prayer life, there are recommended models of prayer to help get you into the habit and routine of praying. Years ago I was in a ministry meeting and we were told to pair up and pray. Well the person I was next to was uncomfortable with praying especially aloud as she had come from a Catholic background. So let’s take some of the mysticism out of prayer and make it accessible to all.

Jesus himself provides a perfect model of prayer in The Lord’s Prayer

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 6:9-13

Here are two similar models.

PRAY

Praise

Repent

Ask

Yield

ACTS

Acknowledge

Confess

Thank

Supplication (ask for what is needed)

For those with a vibrant, fervent prayer life, keep the fire burning. Are you writing down your prayers? Are you recording the testimonies of answered prayers? Do you have a prayer partner? Are you praying without ceasing?

Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

And what I’m personally working on here lately is making my prayer more specific. For example a daily prayer of mine for my children is that they will continue to grow in wisdom and in stature, in favor with God and with man. Ok great, praying the scriptures over my children. But what does that look like real time? How can I make that even more specific? My specific prayer last week was, “Lord, I thank you for my first born. You’ve given her a spirit of discernment. Let her couple that with the wealth of information she easily retains and empower her to apply it as wisdom when in situations with her friends as school. Let her be a leader among her peers leading them in paths of righteousness for your namesake. Let her find favor among the teachers and administrators to be selected for special projects, tasks and programs in which she can shine bright for you. Thank you for ordering her steps as she walks out your plans for her future and hope.”

I also pray all throughout the day. It begins from the moment I awake. Every morning I awake with a song on my heart. I sing the song in my head, and then I pray specifically related to whatever the song was talking about. Then I read my morning devotions and pray and listen for what they Lord has to communicate with me that morning. Then as I’m driving I continue to pray. Mid-morning prayers, lunchtime prayers, homework time prayers (thank you Jesus for modeling patience) and evening prayers. Then one of my most special times of prayer, shower time prayers. The Lord just really seems to show up in the shower.

Indeed, praying without ceasing.

And they include all types of prayers. Prayers of thanksgiving, petition, supplication, intercession, pleas, repentance and more.

Two excellent new resources out now on prayer are:

The Battle Plan for Prayer

Fervent

[bctt tweet=”As automatic as breathing is how I want my prayer life to be. To flow effortlessly from my heart to His.”]

As you draw near to Him in prayer, He’ll continue to draw nearer to you.

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,

To all who call upon Him in truth.

Psalm 145:18

There’s lots of attention these days on eating clean, eating right, eating healthy, whole foods, real foods and the like. That is but a small part of TOTAL nourishment. A well-balanced, nourished life feeds the mind, the body and the spirit.

How crucial it is friends to properly nourish the spirit. Just as the physical body requires daily sustenance for optimal performance, the spirit if not more, requires daily nutriment.

You must feed your spirit.

And as the physical body sometimes needs additional nourishment by way of supplements, extra calories, increase of whole foods and decrease of processed foods coupled with extra rest, massage and maybe some chiropractic or acupuncture care, your spirit man may be in need of a boost through a time of consecration including prayer and fasting. Some things can ONLY be moved through prayer and fasting.

“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:21

Have you ever been in a season where God is downloading nuggets of truth but you don’t necessarily know how to process the information?

Have you ever been in a season where you feel like you can’t hear from God?

Have you ever been in a season where you need CLEAR answers and direction from God?

These are all times that may call for additional prayer and fasting. You know like the holidays call for bigger more substantial meals, you may need a bigger meal to feed your spirit.

The Lord has really been doing a work in me. But it all seems so disjointed. He’s been giving me visions, had me engaged in frontline warfare, has me speaking in ways I’ve never spoken before, He’s stretching my faith. And all these separate occurrences I know will somehow work together for my good but its all so much, so quick. I can’t make sense of it. And what’s impressed upon my spirit is to not try to make sense of it in a way that makes sense to me. But to simply yield to Him and He will bring it all together seamlessly in His perfect timing.

Some of the things He’s spoken to me though require action on my part. To prepare myself to take action, I will clear my heart and mind to receive my instructions. I will consecrate myself through prayer and fasting so I can get my walking papers in hand.

To hear clearly I am minimizing things that can dull my spiritual receptivity. For the next 3 days, I will consume minimal food and drink, only in taking that which is necessary for sustaining health and vitality. A nourished spirit is a strong spirit.

You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

The Word of God will be my food. As I feast on God’s timeless truths, He will reveal the next steps I’m supposed to take. He will strengthen my inner man. As I crucify my outer man’s desires and longings for temporary gratification through food, He will feed me with spiritual food that will not only sustain me but will provide answers I need.

Answers to prayers I’ve prayed.

Answers that will bless others.

Answers that will move the Kingdom agenda forward.

When we pray according to His will, He hears and He answers.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

1 John 5:14-15

His word is my SOUL FOOD. A heaping plate of fragrant, steamy goodness. As I delve into His word I will take my time, chew His words slowly, savor each morsel then swallow it down so that it becomes a part of me, nourishing my blood, muscles, bones, heart and mind. As that nourishment becomes a part of my being, I am strengthened and fortified to walk out my PURPOSE!

When was the last time you gave up something, sacrificially to hear from Him?

Are you in need of direction/answers?

Considering setting aside some time for prayer and fasting.
