God knew.

In the beginning He knew all about us.

He knew how He made us fearfully and wonderfully.

He knew about emotions and how they’d impact our entire being.

He knew all about matters of the heart.

After all, He wired us this way. And since He made us this way, He’s also given us some wisdom on how to nurture our hearts.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

When we think of heart health, we often focus on diet, exercise, and medical check-ups. But did you know that your emotional well-being is just as critical to having a healthy heart? Chronic stress, anxiety, and unresolved emotions can take a toll on the body, leading to high blood pressure, inflammation, and increased risk of heart disease. Studies have shown that negative emotions weaken the heart, while peace and joy strengthen it. And the bible confirms this when it tells us, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” Proverbs 13:13

God’s desire for us is wholeness – body, mind, and spirit. Philippians 4:7 reminds us “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” When we invite God’s peace into our lives through prayer, meditation, and stillness, we reduce stress and protect our hearts from emotional wear and tear.

One of my consistent, daily prayers has to do with my heart. I invite God in to inspect every corner of my heart including the dark, hidden, recessed areas. I ask Him to shine His light within my heart. Then I ask Him to create in me a clean heart and to renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). I also ask Him to remove any hardening in my heart and to give me His heart for His people (Ezekiel 36:26).

Living in a fallen world makes our hearts susceptible to corruption. Like newborns vulnerable to illness, our hearts are at risk of being infected. But thanks be to God that He’s given us a remedy! He is a heart regulator. In fact, I heard Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell say just today, “The best treatment for the human heart is the presence of Christ.” Christ is truly the solution for all matters of the heart.

Abiding in Him is the best place we can be.
God has given us His love from which nothing can separate us.
He has given us His peace which surpasses all understanding.
He has given us His joy which is our strength.
And if you have accepted Him as Lord, He has given you salvation leading to eternal life.
Take heart: love is yours, peace is yours, joy is yours! In case love, peace and joy are feeling elusive for you today, I have some small actions you can take right now.

Here are a few practical things you can do TODAY to ease your emotions and nurture your heart:

✅ Start your day with 2 minutes of deep breathing, prayer, or scripture meditation.
✅ Practice gratitude—write down three things you’re thankful for.
✅ Limit negativity—unplug from stressful news and social media.

Small steps when done consistently yield big results so commit to doing the above every day this week. In the interim, let me pray for you.

Lord, in the matchless name of your son Jesus the Christ, I come humbly as I intercede for your people. God will you give my friend reading this confirmation that you love them. Give them tangible manifestation of your presence and of your love. God, for any parts of their heart that need mending, bind up their wounds. Invite them to cast their cares on you. Be their safety. Be their peace. And filled their heart afresh with joy and abounding joy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Just a note that the condition of your heart can even impact your eating behaviors. So I invite you to join me this week for a powerful teaching.
